No idea why anyone should have a reason to be allowed to own a fully automated weapon.

But then that's their born right isn't it, apparently? You would think the USA could find far batter ways of spending all the cash.

Does the right to bear arms go back to the days of cowboys or prior to that?

Dates from the Declaration of Independence or not that long after iirc, from what I know they were concerned about an reinvasion by a properly equipped and commanded British Force and wanted an armed populace to call up as a Militia.

I think George Washington would be horrified by what a well intentioned piece of legislation has caused in the country he helped bring into being.

right back to 1791 , the pertinent phrase is : "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." . In my opinion and I'm no legal expert I would say that that intends for people to be armed as part of a state militia to protect said state but it is widely accepted that it applies to personal ownership of weapons which I don't think it really does .

It's from the 2nd Amendment To The Constitution......the right to bear arms, etc.

Trump seems to have added another amendment - The right to talk bollocks.

He didn't have a fully automatic weapon; they're illegal.

He bought semi automatic weapons, which are legal. Then he bought an add on to make it fully automatic, which is also legal

Well...he had a fcuking arsenal of weapons in that room....definitely a man on a mission.
Saw that fully-auto-converter on the news (if it's the one you're talking about)....that's a weird set-up.....if memory serves it's not that difficult to make a weapon like that fully-auto....but then the entire weapon is compromised. That thing skirts around the laws, it seems

Technically it's legal because there's contact with the trigger, even though you're using an adaptation to make it fully automatic. Complete and utter madness.

I tried an AK at a range in Vegas a few years ago......surprisingly smooth weapon to operate. Think it was set to 3-round bursts.
I went through 2 mags on the thing, IIRC

I fired a mini uzi on full auto. Tiny thing, very little noise and hardly any kick.

I once spent a week rafting down a river in Nepal with the granddaughter of Major Uziel Gal.

Currently at @ 50 weapons located....both in the hotel room, and at another location.....I'm guessing his home, but that's just a guess

The police have said he was looking to hit another event, so those weapons could have been stored somewhere else for that.

There's a photo kicking around of his body in the hotel room. There's a note on the table. I wonder if he said why he did it?

There was an interview with someone at the music event. His argument about guns was that the attacker could have bought 1000 knives and done the same amount of damage.

Really? From the 32nd floor of a hotel a few hundred yards away? He could have tossed out 1,000 knives in under 9 minutes killing 58 people and injuring hundreds of others?

I've heard some pro-gun arguments in my times but that one takes the biscuit.

I see that gun sales have gone up in the wake of the massacre. Presumably people panic buying in case there's a ban? There won't be. Obama couldn't change a thing. Trump isn't even inclined to change things.

Yeah....pretty good assessment I think. Many, if not most people who own a gun for "recreation" seem to own several of them...which I understand. Whereas those who use them for work, it seems like they're much more "reserved" in their purchases.
I'm guessing the recreation-types never actually earned their wings by taking a round.....

Hi, I would like to buy a gun please
Have you ever been shot?
What?
You need to have taken a round to buy a gun
Erm
Left leg or right leg?
Neither
Chest?
What, you mad bro?
Shoulder then? Want to pick one or shall I decide?
I'll take a knife instead.
Same rules man, left leg or right?

It's the law for a concealed carry permit, I'm afraid.
It's not a big deal.....vest has already been tested.....which means it looks frickin' hardcore now, because it had two bulletholes in it!!
Defo knocks the wind out of you.

And your breakfast, if you ignored the "do not eat anything beforehand" instructions.

If everyone closed their borders to US citizens, how long would it be before they had all shot each other dead? :^
