That is the best thing I've read in ages, true gentleman and a sharp wit.

He used to live in Gerrards Cross which is quite close to the Pinewood Studios (I am going back to the late 70's)

I was working nights 1 new years eve and a call came in. He was holding a new years eve party but his guests cars were blocking the road so me and my mate were instructed to go and call on him and ask if he could arrange to get said vehicles moved. New year had already arrived so it was after midnight.

Roger himself answered the door, and was very apologetic and said he would arrange immidiately for the cars to be moved, but we must come in and join him for a celebratory new years drink.

The guest list were all the major A listers of the day, Sean Connery being one of them, but Mr Moore (as he was then) was the perfect host and spent most of the evening chatting to us making sure we were well lubricated (I was teetotal even back then) but it transpired that his Father was a Policeman so he was very pro job.

Anyway, me and my mate left about 5am having had one of the best new years ever with memories f a charming man who had no airs and graces, very humble and an experience I have always remembered.

I met him on several occasions subsequently, and he always remembered that evening and he aways had a little wink and sparkle in his eye.

A true legend and gentleman and by gentleman I mean Gentle Man.....

RIP Sir Roger.

If you read it properly, I did say I was teetotal even back then |(

I have not consumed alcohol in nearly 40 years
