Much as I usually rant about random fines as general cash core schemes, this I see as a good idea. There are far too many parents that drive their one little sproglet to school in their massive 4 wheel drive. Usually in a big queue of other parents all coming from the same area.

Agreed. There's a school just down the road these people also live just down the road but insist on driving and parking right outside the school blocking people's driveways...they are the laziest c^&ts going. Some of them live in the estate next to us and drive a 4 minute walk...its not even worth switching the engines on!
It used to be a private school and we never had a problem now it's a state school all the mum's need to show off their cars, it's crazy.

You want to say to them " Look love you work in Sainsbury's 10min drive away as a till girl for a few hours you don't need a 10 year old 4x4 BMW on a 5 year finance agreement"

I'm all for it start the fining!!

As someone that lived there for 15 years and had children, the simple answer is to stop parents sending kids to anywhere other than their local school. Some people are driving their kids 10 miles across town to get a better school.

Our old garden overlooked the local school car park, and William nearly didn't get a place. They have a sibling rule so some children from out of the area got preference over kids in the next street.

And to prove the point my commute halved during school holidays.

@ Ross...And you are aware that along with the presence of a school, small Jawa-like creatures known as " children" are often found lurking in close proximity??

In Japan the kids make their own way to school. Let ours do likewise.

Very possibly!

I've not followed my own advise and we drive our kids to school, but to be fair this is their school.

There's no bus and you can't really expect 5 years olds to hike every day.

Plus it's a loverly drive, with zero traffic. Couldn't be further from our old London lifestyle.

It is, they don't know how lucky they are. Bloody ingrates!

They only actually have to go there 3 days a week (I send them every day) and spend half of their time outside.

Never drive my kids to school even though their school is on the side of a mountain range. The 22 seater school bus pickes them up from my driveway and drops them back the same spot at the end of the day.

If it wasn't for the bus I'd have to drive them. It's 3 km down a national highway and a 250m climb back to home!
