Caught 14 times by the same camera in 2 months

Post by T.C. »

What does this say about a so called professional driver?

Not sure I would be mouthing off to the press about it though.....

Bit sneaky though, changing a traffic light camera to a speed camera and then not painting it yellow or changing the signs for several weeks.

At the end of the day he's lost is job, income and who knows what else for a few very minor speeding offences. No doubt at the cost of the tax payer for the next year or so.

He's a taxi driver regularly driving past what he thinks is a traffic light camera knowingly breaking the speed limit by a bit. Although that doesn't mean he's not actually a cockend!

It's just disproportionate and another working tax payer on the dole (probably)

T.C, do you know anything about this? Someone posted the below on Facebook.
So as of April if you're caught doing over 91mph on a national speed limit B road (bike roads) you'll be fined 150% of your weekly wage plus the points.

That's not quite right.

It's the maximum up can be fined, up to £1,000 for a normal road and £2,500 for an offence on the motorway.

At present it's up to 100% of your weekly wage. Now it's 150% but that can be increased to 175%

This explains it better than I can.

You would have thought after getting the first notification through the post that the penny would have dropped and he would have slowed down.

They can't, this one was converted and they didn't tell anyone or change the signs or markings for a while. Sneaky Barstewards!

In fairness 14 times on the same camera is excessive and as someone who needs a driving licence for a living he should know and behave better IMO.

If one camera captured him that often it begs the question how many other places is he a regular speeder? and I would hazard a guess at that answer being pretty much everywhere.

Whilst I don't really like speed cameras and see little evidence of them making the roads safer the law is the law what else could be done ??? Hr had broken it and it has to be enforced to be respected and hold any value.

If he had made a single error of judgement I would agree some benefit of doubt could be consider in sentencing but I don't see how the courts had much choice in this issue.

General question what warrant's the title professional driver ????

Do taxi drivers receive extra training or testing ?

I imagine the term is used as he drives for a living. If that be the case the use professional driver IMO is wrong as it implies a higher standard of driving which this guy clearly doesn't possess.

Lead's me to the next point. If Taxi drivers are not assessed / trained to a higher standard should they be ? They are often responsible for our safety at the end of the day.

Profession = paid to do it is the way I always view it.

Black cab drivers have a higher standard. Private and Uber don't.

In answer to your first point, as you say anyone who is employed as a driver and/or has received additional training over and above the requirements of the L test with a recognised qualification on passing the relevant tests at the conclusion of such training.

So for example, I am considered a professional driver and a professional rider because of the courses I have had to complete and examinations I have had to pass over the years.

In answer to your second point, I think anyone who is licenced and carries passengers for hire or reward should have theor standards tested regularly, and not just Taxi drivers but private hire drivers as well.

I have probably booked more Taxi and private hire drivers in the past than any other class of driver, and even now when I have to look at a case where a Taxi or private hire vehicle is involved, 99% of the time it is the Taxi or PH vehicle at fault.

See what he says in that article is that he just drives with the flow of the traffic, which is very true many many people look into the distance and if the road is free, then speed shouldn't be much of an issue unless adverse conditions.

Is it more dangerous not to drive with the flow of traffic?

I hate cameras I think they are pointless things I don't agree with a camera telling me that I am an unsafe or possibly unfit road user, I would prefer people to be looking into the distance and driving at what they think is acceptable instead of a mindless person driving along not exceeding the speed limit but not having a clue what is in front of them due to checking their speed all the time.

Ross
....those are excellent points BUT....it's really no more difficult to maintain a slower speed than a higher one. And it's not like it was his first time driving that road.
Don't forget also that a maximum speed is just that...it's not a minimum, and it applies to all road users, day or night, and in any sort if weather.
