Nuisance calls

Post by duke63 »

About bloody time.

How many business/personal hours must be wasted answering this shite every week?

I just tell them I'm in the same line of work...whatever it is that they're touting. Invariably they'll ask for which company, and I give them sommit regional.....West Coast Windows, Pacific Roofing, etc......."Oh yeah...I think I've heard of them...I'll take you off our call list".

Never fails and is quick and easy, no animosity, etc.

There's a guy over here...forget his name...he "pranks" cold callers with fake gunshot sounds, and pretend "murders over the phone" etc....records them..even crashes their conventions...and makes a living of the CDs he records & sells.

Genius.

They used to wind me up but I have started answering the phone in as broad of an Indian accent as I can muster up to unknown numbers and a couple of weeks ago I had an accident claim line phone me about the car accident I was never in. I kept them on the phone for 10 minutes talking non stop until I asked how much I could claim for being decapitated. I was sat in hospital as we speak with my head temporarily stitched on. They didn't take long to hang up.

I think we've all known your situation for some time, Tony......

It explains a lot.

My mate took my phone when I got one the other day. He speaks Spanish.

The caller didn't, but bless her she didn't half try to go through her script!

It didn't last. (lol)

I like the accident ones , I agree with them I was in an accident and suffered some head trauma which has affected my memory , then I ask who they are and what they want again and again and again .

I couple of years back I'd had a few G&T's when I got the "this is windows, we need access to your computer to fix it for you" call.

Now my son is total obsessed with video games and being ASD will talk non-stop about them if you let him. So I quite politely told the lovely Indian man that I knew nothing about computers but would put him on to the person in the house that did.

Handed the phone to Byron (think he was 5 or 6 at the time) and said "Tell this man all about your wii games mate"

To his credit the bloke hung on for a good 5 mins (lol)

About a month ago we bought a phone that screens every incoming call that isn't in the contacts list, the caller has to announce themselves and we get to block, allow once or permanently allow calls from that number. It's stopped all the nuisance calls in one hit.

Love the stories on here. I generally don't get many calls now. I've hit the roof with a few of them that I'm not proud over but I now get lots of recorded calls maybe it serves me right lol !

Generally speaking any calls with the emergency services are from a home phone to them, not the other way around, but should doctors, hospitals etc call, afaik they announce themselves just the same as everyone else, otherwise the protocol that would allow them through would get exploited by the spam callers.
