He's VERY outspoken...that much is obvious.
BUT...he's going in with the knowledge that only a small fraction of what he proposes will ever passed into legislation...setting the bar high to begin with exposes him to huge negative feedback from opponents...flak he's willing to take, it seems without rancour.
He's know it's a sh*tty job but he's willing to step up and give it a shot.
He doesn't need to...he has more wealth than anyone can ever need or truly appreciate.
He's proposing taking back much of US business interests that have been frittered away during preceding terms of office by Obama, Bush, et al....done so primarily to gain votes with ethnic minorities/immigrant population sub-groups.
This country has lost nearly all it's manufacturing capabilities over the past generation or so to lower priced competition from overseas....that's fine if you don't mind riding a bike built primarily in Indonesia, and punching keys on a PC made in India. Just don't expect to have a job to pay for any of the crap you want.
Public demand for lower priced consumer items has driven this economic shift...or perhaps stagnation is a more apt word.

End of the day, he's proposing to bring back more lower end employment positions.....the sort of jobs that the vast majority of people will end up doing...IF..and only if, they are available. Right now they are not.

True....he's jumping on the 'National Pride' bandwagon as a er, vehicle to exert leverage over popular opinion and garner votes...what's wrong with that?? If the end result is positive I have no problem with it at all. Lack of national pride is what got us into this situation....getting some of it back surely can't hurt things, can it??

I'm fairly apolitical these days....I don't 'like' Trump per se....but that doesn't mean he cannot do the job....the whole election is winning a popularity contest for the most unpopular job in the world.

I would stay where you are if you can. I want to see what happens to this country before we make any moves but we have talked quite a lot about living in France or elsewhere in Europe before we get too old. The wife was visibly angry and upset this morning as she feels it's less likely to happen now.

To be honest if things go economically bad we may have to return and mothball here (we'd never sell it with the new situation anyway). We've been talking to a few expats today (and are going to the local expat pub tonight to see whats what) and some are so very worried. The right to healthcare in europe will likely disappear for expats and therefore many older expats will start to panic. The right to live in europe without visas or citizenship may also go.

Older expats pensions are dependant on the value of the pound so they will be very much poorer. A couple of them are very worried as they have very little and no way back to the UK financially.

If Britain thinks immigration is a drain on the UK's resources, wait until hundreds of thousands of UK passport holders arrive back and start claiming off the state!

Plan for the future, be clever, work hard and save hard to be rewarded by utter madness - thanks Britain.
