We have snakes here. They hibernate in winter. Adder is the only venomous snake in the British Isles and you'll have to be unlucky to be bitten by one, let alone suffer anything serious unless you're old, ill or very young.

We've got an area less than a mile from where I live that's got a fairly dense adder population - to the point where there are signs out warning people to steer clear, no fatalities since I was a kid, but most years there's at least one dog that gets a bite for being curious/stupid.

Makes my blood run cold and they've been about since I was a kid....

I think you've almost have to want to get bitten by a snake for it to actually happen.....the only time people get bit by a rattler here is when they fcuk with them....their bite radius is really not that big at all, and it's not like they don't warn people that they're there.
