Fwiw I read the book when it was first released, and although I liked the choice of plot subject I felt it was poorly written compared to other efforts. Sadly he simply took an interesting concept, and applied to it his "one trick pony" std Dan Brown plot.

Films rarely give me as much as a good book, so given my above view I wouldn't have considered the film version even if I had previously known about it.
After your reviews, now I certainly won't. :D

Oblivion (Tom Cruise) haven't seen this for a while and can't actually remember how it ends. It's one of those films that isn't repeated a lot on telly so it's nice to watch it when it is on

Very similar sentiments to myself StM, I cannot ever remember seeing a film where the original book wasn't better. Inferno was the one in that series I hadn't read the book on, so I went into it with no preconceptions, I won't waste my money on Mr Browns new book/yacht/pension plan/etc now.

Currently watching Oblivion the same as Rossgo, a bit Wall E with guns and fit bods.

Ben Hur. The chariot race is probably the best action sequence ever filmed without cgi or other enhancement.

the 1959 one or the new one ?
I thought the new one added nothing and seemed shorter , prefer the 59 version , I almost said the original but then remembered there was a version made in 1925 - I can't comment on that one as I have not seen it all .

The '59 one - hence my comments re CGI etc, I didn't know about the 1925 version, but I guess as always Hollywood is famous for reviving old ideas. The latest version has no grand quality about it imho, we watched it from a disc, and the Charlton Heston commentary option is a big bonus if you're a film fan, well worth the few quid it cost.
