Been gym, innit

Dropped back to my old programme, it was designed to be flexible, I don't have to do the exercises in order. The one my mate did for me is all about doing supersets and hitting various parts in a set order.

Hmm.. I do love me a good superset or tripleset!!

I was talking about my knee injury with my mate who recently had ACL surgery, we discussed my symptoms and it doesn't sound good - we share every single symptom he suffered with. I've booked myself in with a sports injury therapist for this afternoon

Well enrolled at the new 24 hr gym near me , used to be fitness first only £15.99 a month . Not been for 2.5 years and at 52 and being overweight it's fecking hard work.
Only about 1.5 miles from my new office so went at 5.45am on Monday thinking it would be quiet .....wrong, about 40 people in there. Went yesterday about 3.30 pm thinking it would be busy and there was only about 20 people in ?

5 mile run tonight, recovery run so no real rush.

Got to try some new trainers a Hoka where there with done demo trainers. They look a bit strange as they have very thick looking sole's, buy by heck are they comfortable. We where offered at 15% discount so seriously considering sneaking a pair through the door.

I've been given a strong recommendation on those too Nuts, but as you say the thick sole really put me off. Good to hear your thoughts on them. I'll need new shoes before I get back in to running as my Adidas Boost are slicks now!

Do you guys use double-skin socks? I think Hilly make them and I've been highly recommended those for improving comfort

Not that I've run for about two years now but I'm a terrible heel striker so that's my main consideration with shoes. Haven't heard of double skin socks and the ones I use are pretty comfy.

The whole premise of it is that the two layers of sock rub against each other rather than your foot rubbing on the sock

I've got a pair that have thick sole's, not heard of double skin socks at all. Might have a look into them for the winter.

I'm a heel striker as well kiwi, I would seriously recommend you try out the hoka's in that case. The extra cushioning on the heel really helped on down hill sections last night.

I commonly get a bit of discomfort in the achilles at the start of the day, especially after a run. Nothing at all this morning.

Cheers Nutz, think I will. My archillies and hammy have finally settled down, so just have to get this hip right again and I'm planning on getting back to it, so those look like the go.

Have you been for Gait analysis Kiwi?

Also get some sorbothane insoles for your work boots. Makes a big difference and like walking around in slippers not work boots.

This kind of thing. I use the thin all red ones

Haven't had a gait analysis but I think it's about time I did to be honest.

But with you on the insoles, I have been using them for the last few years, actually due for replacement! I changed to a lighter style of work boot too.

Supplement magnesium and use the mag oil on your Achilles it really helps with cramps and relaxing muscles
Most athletes are mag deficient

Thanks Perks, although I wouldn't put myself in the 'athlete' label atm! But definitely something else I need to look at.

I think this is something I need to start looking into. As I'm picking up the piece on the longer runs I'm getting more cramps, especially after a long fast down hill section.

Yesterday evening was a 9 mile training run on the Basingstoke half route again. Average moving pace of 9:15, which really surprised me as I spent a fair chunk of the run at 10+ m/mile pace chatting about trainers.

The last section probably helped as I spurn about 1/2 a mile at 6:30 pace (shocked)
