Tankbags

Post by C00kiemonster »

Any recommendations?

I've sold all my old ventura system for the dearly departed RC8, so I'm updating my luggage for the Street Triple.

I want one that locks to a ring on the fuel cap i think - easy to take off and no scratches on the tank.

Not too big (its not a big bike) but it's got to be useful for touring (i'm debating a big waterproof stuff bag for the rear too) so it's got to hold electrical and valuable stuff as well as an overflow for luggage and a zip pocket or two for credit cards etc. Preferably waterproof and faff free. Do they do them so i don't have to carry a waterproof cover too?

It would be nice if my GPS could go in the top but i do have a mount for the bars for it so not essential.

I've started to look but am going round in circles so any experience of crap / good ones is a help. (y)

Got the GIVI tank lock bag. 3L version I think. Could be 5. Great bag. But comes with rain cover. Had for about 3 years and is main day pack. Very recommended.

They come in different sizes too

Baglux for me every time for what its worth.

Decent bags which clip into place and the harness protects the tank (which I leave on all the time) When I change the bike I just change the harness (assuming I change makes/models)
It is better to arrive 30 seconds late in this world than 30 years early in the next

SW Motech do some really nice powered ones, bit pricey though.

I think you'll struggle to find a waterproof one that size with that method of attachment.

Givi do a6 litre waterproof one but it's straps http://www.brandedbiker.co.uk/Givi-Lugg ... g-6-litre/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Oxford do the tank lock bags but they come with a waterproof cover.

Thats what i was finding, but i hate straps. It will likely have to be one with a waterproof cover then.

I dont want anything that isn't a connector ring. Even magnetic ones scratch.

I have the SW Motech bag on mine too, there's no storage under the seat so it's a permanent fixture and I really like how quick and easy it is to clip on and off. There is also no chance of scratching the tank like with a magnetic bag.

Yes and you wont need to change the bag if you change the bike. Would also fit Jane's bike with another tank ring.

Dont tell her that :D

Based on what people have said on here and having a good look last night it will be a Givi or an SW Motech i think. I want to have a look at the Oxford range too.

I have to decide what size, but i'm likely going to buy a big drybag for the back rather than a ventura rack this time, so i want to see how big that will end up being first. The small drybag i used on the few days we did in France last year worked well, it just wasnt designed for motorbikes, so i want something harder wearing and clips for bungees on it.

Avoid the Micro tank bag Mtech do. It's too small. The Daypack is a good compromise.

Exactly the thing i'm looking at. The bag will fit on the street inline with the seats and stick out over the rear light (above not covering) by a few cms only.

The debate is which colour - luminous might be fun 8)
