R.I.P ZX10R

Any idea what you're looking for next? Complete change of style or something like the current R1 or BMW?

When the V4 Pani comes out will the second hand 1299s value drop or go up because it's the last of the twins?

It will do whatever you don't suspect it will do... it's a Ducati afterall

You'd think it would drop quite a bit then level off as a "collectible"....bit like the RC51 has done over the years.

Good question Monty.

Prices do seem to have softened already but imo won't drop much further and may even rise a little.

Originally I did expect them to drop as fickle owners chopped in nearly new 1299's for the V4 but there are now three reasons making me think again about it.

1, Ducati control their supply and demand well. To stop the market being flooded with cheap pre-resgistered 1299's, Ducati stopped production a good few months back. They did exactly the same with the 899 when the 959 came out. You couldn't get a demonstrator ride on a 899 because before the dealers demonstrator even arrived it was sold as the 899 was in limited supply with still high demand.

2, The inital reaction to the V4 leaked photos have been luke warm at best. Its not a huge leap in design as some hoped it might be. Dont get me wrong performance wise it will be a siginificant step but design wise it keeps similar lines to the Panigale range and the 205 bhp 1299's are not short on performance unless your called Chaz Davis. With the 1299 being the all time pinnacle of vtwin sports bikes (Ducati were the only one still developing the vtwin engine configuation and have now stopped) people may want to hang on to their 1299's

3. There is a well established market for Ducti vtwin sports bike of all era's 851/888/916/996/998/999/1098/1198/1199 all preceding the 1299. If the 1299 prices were to fall it would have to drive all the earlier model prices down apart from rare collectors bikes like 916SPS, 888SP5 etc...

As D41 says they may follow the way RC51 / SP2 prices went and start to appreciate.

I also think Cav is right and Ducati are hard to predict correctly but the above is my opinion.

Oh come on Blade, you know your precisely the customer that Ducati had in mind when they conceived their Superleggera.
You owe it to yourself mate. (nod)
