Sound testing at track

Just a quick question. Can you pop to a track and get a sound test done on your cans?

I'm looking to book my first ever track day with the IAM guys (small amount goes out on track plus tuition) but a little worried about what it's pumping out at the rear as I heard from the last track day they did, people got told they couldn't go out on track cause they were too loud.

So with that in mind I would like to check mine out. Do you think I should phone up before or do people just turn up and ask at the gate, I'm really unsure?! I ask you guys because I know there's a lot of track enthusiasts here!

what track is it and what can have you got fitted to the bike ?
My old ducati monster with twin open carbon cans and rattly open clutch cover read 103 dba static on the mallory noise test ,its feckin loud but still passed

they are very strict at castle coombe especially with bikes,I would do as you suggest and ride down when they have a track day on and ask to be tested
I am sure they would do it for you,1st track day get in

I never failed a noise test on my CBR with a race can on it. Not even close.

It's a 600 il4 Rossgo it's the larger capacity and big twins that tend to struggle.

Plus 105db is very loud as it's normally 102db and 3db is a doubling of the sound as it's logarithmic scale.

My zx10 was 101db with the cat removed and an open race can which is effectively a full race system.

Honestly mate you will be fine and I wouldn't give it a 2nd thought.

Castle Combe test at 3/4 revs, there are loads of bikes with OEM cans that they list that wont pass the noise tests.

I'd pop down and get it tested just for peace of mind. You can pop down on any trackday and get it tested once the trackdayers are finished testing. I went on a car trackday and got mine tested. Good luck!

I Got my first RSV4 tested on a track day there a few years ago no problem, they ask you to get it tested there if you're not sure.
Mine was 117db I wasn't doing a track day just curious to what noise it was knocking out.

TBH no, I even went all the way down the Algarve with that bike.
Now this new de cat system I have put on the multi may have to have the baffle put in cos that IS loud ! its a different type of noise if you know what I mean.

All interesting points. Thanks for your help here guys. I have heard it is a tad boring but I think for my first one I think it will be prefect.

I think I'll pop down anyway, plus get to watch a bit of racing!

Did anyone ever ring before or just pop down and ask for a sound test?

The Castle Combe link gives you pretty clear guidelines on how they measure, so for the sake of a few quid for the app it will probably give you a good idea if you need to bother riding down to get it checked.

The apps are known for not being very accurate afaik. If the track is close enough pop down as it's one less thing you have to worry about then.
