Re: What are you doing today ??

Re: Possible house move

things to watch for, upper storey leaning out slightly, roof spread found in inter war houses of solid wall construction. these houses can also have damp in lower walls. that the boiler is in good order. where any improvements have been carried out, ie walls removed or fire places removed - can resu...

Re: going electric

Re: going electric

i'm wondering how items that are big power drains are going to be catered for - for example heated grips on bikes will have to go in favour of something much more economical like heavily insulated gloves with electric elements that don't impose too much of a load. More importantly how do you heat ca...

Re: Possible house move

the only thing that i could think of to keep stamp duty down was to buy a smaller property with scope to be extended but this isn't easy to do and often builders are ahead of the game having spotted these opportunities but it probably can be done if you are willing to put up with all the disruption ...

going electric

what are your views, it's coming whether we like it or not as both britain and france aren't allowing any new internal combustion sales after 2040 due to air polution, apparently around 40K pa deaths are earlier in the uk because of air quality issues. the bikes are getting better, they do have a so...

Re: Possible house move

interested to hear about your prospective move because we have been thinking about it for some time. i don't want to be negative but what has stayed our hand is stamp duty, solicitors and estate agents fees, these seem well out of order these days. i got an estimate of the basic total cost (everythi...

Re: American school shooting

do they, at least, have licencing for firearms in the US?

different subject but we were better off in the UK when we had dog licences, at minimum, there is registration that way.

I hate all that PC stuff, had a whole load of it at work. even if you were busy you'd get taken off to a compulsory talk to put you right on the latest nonsense.

Re: Garden changes

whoever you pick, i'd ask to see some examples of their work and speak to the person who had the work done. i used to do a local widow woman's garden after i retired, i didn't charge much - i got a few injuries, scratches and cuts as the place was a mess, involved pruning trees, putting up fences an...

Re: IAM

i had two attempts at IAM training, I suppose I did about 6 sessions with the first and four with the second, it was helpful, mostly I remember advice about keeping distance and defensive behaviours at junctions but somehow I couldn't get on with it, I think it was too advanced for what I was lookin...

Re: Just one bike

i understand that you have your reasons for contemplating a change of motorbike incidentally, this thread reminds me of a trait that i noticed with all bikers, especially me ie: - the feeling that there is another bike round the corner so you spend your time looking for the next machine then later o...

Re: Just one bike

what i like about having two bikes is that if there's something amiss with one then i've got the other, it might be a puncture, an ailing battery, bulbs that i haven't got a replacement for or some kind of mechanical issue. Of course, with my bikes being older, getting a replacement part can take a ...
