I'd also question this. My 990 SD is 7 years old, OK granted it's very low mileage at under 10k, but other than a few stone chips there is no sign of wear.

I've yet to have it serviced though so I may change my mind then.

I have the SW Motech bag on mine too, there's no storage under the seat so it's a permanent fixture and I really like how quick and easy it is to clip on and off. There is also no chance of scratching the tank like with a magnetic bag.

I think that after having two bikes for so long, the thought of having just one is probably way worse than the reality of it, if that makes sense??

BUT.....you also commute on a bike, which definitely changes things a LOT.
