Hi all,

I know we've talked about this so many time, but I'm going to book my CSS level 3 in the coming weeks and thought I'd see if I could hook up with some of you guys and gals on the day.

I thinking one of the dates in April on the Stowe circuit at Silverstone, but would be open to changing that so long as it's not later than May as I'd like to get my day in before the track day season starts properly.

If you've not completed a CSS day before don't be concerned about the apparent Mickey mouse nature of the Stowe circuit, CSS is all about cornering and there are plenty of those and they're close together which means you get loads of practice - anyone can go down a straight full throttle and you will hit three figures on the dash if only for a few seconds.

Both myself and Pitty (I'll let him add his own link) have posted pics from this circuit and both had amazing days last year.

So who's in, what dates work?

I'd like to, but will try the Chris Walker school in May first. Problem is your talking £600 with bike hire for the day - CW school is £299 for the bike and tuition.

I imagine CSS is very good and probably better, but not sure it is worth that.

I could be wrong and the CW school might be crap Rolling on the floor laughing

Ride your own bike, and a day at CSS lasts longer than CW.

The more i read from them, the more i am not entirely convinced by some of the CSS teachings.

That Motovudu dvd i had for Christmas seems to actually contradict some of what the CSS teach...and that guy has won a 500GP.

I actually am going the other way.

I have seen the Motovudu, read the book and the more I think about it (and have talked to people with far more skill than I will ever have) the less convinced I am about the video. Being able to do something and understanding/ teaching it are 2 completely different skills.

I think Motovudu is aimed at riders far better than me. Some of the things he says are well meant but not the best explained.

Eg "brake hard immediately" then let the brakes off earlier; grabbing a handful very hard immediately could cause you to lose the front.
there are others as well.

I don't think I'll get into a debate about what's best that's been done many times.

Here's what I found... CSS, has given me more head space on trackdays. A couple of years ago I used to come away from a trackday feeling frustrated that I couldn't go any faster. Now I come away feeling exilerated, I'm faster, calmer and enjoy them so much more. I'm not the fastest guy out there by a long way, but I'm never frustrated, I know I have the mental capacity for even more speed, and I revel in the precision of nailing good technique, I know with more training I'll go faster still & will get more enjoyment. No matter how good CSS is there will always be someone with more natural ability or just less regard for personal safety than me, but I'm getting he best out of what I bring & I couldn't say that before.

It's not cheap but IMHO it is good value.

I like your attitude, most especially the "head space" comment...after all, besides athletic ability, only what is in our minds separates us from those who are light-years faster than us...I don't ride for the supposed 'adrenaline-rush'...frankly, I don't understand that sentiment at all..I ride because I find it relaxes me and allows me to focus on just one thing & one thing only.

Except the falling off part...I probably focus on that a bit too....

Lol, yeah, it's the falling off part that slows me down to, but the ride at 80% ethos of the school allows me to feel comfortable and focus on doing things right. By the end of the day I'm giving it 98% commitment (I can't help it!) which is probably 120% of what I was capable of when I arrived and grinning from ear to ear rather than grimacing about what might happen.

No experience of Motovudu but I belive CSS has coached the likes of Leon Camier & Wayne Rainey and many more.

As far as I know CSS are the best boys in the buisness although I have no experience of them personally I m just going on other peoples feedback, altough I do think they are expensive.

My problem with the CSS is that it's a big investment and you really need to do the different levels in consecutive years at worst and probably all 4 in two season.

It's a £2k investment to do the whole lot by the time you add in travel, days off work etc.
